We are looking for a Head Chef to lead the kitchen team in our growing African restaurant based in Coventry. With the role being people focused, you will need to be able to create strong relationships with senior management and throughout the whole organisation. 
While costings and profits are important the food and customer comes first and are required to be managed effectively. The head chef will be required to oversee all elements of the kitchen while supporting the other junior chefs and leading from the front. 
Food quality is paramount and working in a pressured environment is a vital aspect of the role. You will need to be skilled in efficient kitchen management and have strong leadership capability to drive, support and develop the team. The right individual will inspire and lead the team to consistently deliver and develop excellent food, further enhancing the business' reputation in the market. 
The business requires a head chef who understands timing and efficiency due to the nature of the delivery of the business which is set to strict time schedules.
The chef will be required to have good working experience and a level 2 food safety qualification. They will be required to work 7 shifts a week over 5 days with a competitive salary as well.
JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
• Requisition, purchase and examine deliveries from suppliers to ensure quality.
• Plan African menus, prepare, season and cooks foodstuffs and oversee their preparation and monitor the quality of finished dishes.
• Create and update new food recipe to meet customers demand
• Supervise, organise and instruct kitchen staff and manages activities in the kitchen.
• Ensure relevant hygiene and health and safety standards are maintained within the kitchen.
• Plan and co-ordinate kitchen work such as fetching, clearing and cleaning of equipment and utensils.
• Maintain personal knowledge by completing in-house training and workbooks
• Complete all appropriate company documentation and key tasks, on every shift

JOB REQUIREMENT:
• The right candidate is required to have a level 2 or 3 food safety qualification from Highfield or the chartered Institute of environmental health.
• Must be physically fit and healthy, as you may be required to could be on your feet round the shift
• Must be able to co-ordinate the activities of the production unit effectively
• Must be Creative and up to date with new food recipe as customers may demand
• You need to be Pro-active, driven & adaptable.
• The candidate must have wide-ranging knowledge of African cuisine backed with extensive experience of cooking African dishes in a commercial establishment.
• The candidate must have demonstrated the ability to cook ethnic dishes like Efo Egusi, Eforiro, Ogbono ,Oha, Banga Soup, Edikaikang Soup, Ayamase, Pepper Soup, Jollof rice, Akara (Bean Cake), Bean and plantain pottage, Suya, Moin-Moin, Efo-riro, Igbin Alata, Obe-Ila Alasepo, Ewa Agoyin, Ekpang Nkukwo, Egusi among others.  
• The ideal candidate should be residing in Coventry & its surrounding areas.
• Minimum 5 years relevant experience is required in the hospitality industry.
